I hear people say that love is important, but it is not enough. I must have repeated that myself too, until recently.
In an attempt to explain the reason behind the saying, we would come to a partial understanding that love, the mutual feeling of acceptance between two people, is important, but is not enough to sustain a long term relationship, say marriage. So in addition, we will need money, first of all, and every other thing that can be added to the list, after love.
And there is some sense in that if that was the proper description of love (the mutual feeling of acceptance between two people). That love, that engages our feelings and emotions to help us decide whether to marry or not marry a person, is truly not enough to sustain a marriage. Every marriage will definitely need more than that.
Yes, every marriage definitely needs LOVE, as described in scripture. Let’s take a look at 1 Corinthians 13:4-8a CEV
Love is patient and kind, never jealous, boastful, proud, or rude.
Love isn’t selfish or quick tempered. It doesn’t keep a record of wrongs that others do.
Love rejoices in the truth, but not in evil.
Love is always supportive, loyal, hopeful, and trusting.
Love never fails!
Is there any marriage, founded on this kind of love that can fail? Is there any spouse that practises these descriptions of love and loses? Is there anything that can be more than these?
This is the kind of love that IS ENOUGH. That needs nothing else to sustain it, but itself.
Go over those words of scripture again, and this time, in place of LOVE, use your name and say it out loud to yourself, then decide to live by this LOVE that NEVER FAILS.
THIS LOVE IS ENOUGH!
